Happy Birthday to Sarah!

Happy birthday to you! Happy birrrrrthdaaaaay dear Saaaraaah, Happy Birthday tooooo yooooou!

Today it is my sister-in-law's birthday. And today, as for the past week, I am sitting beside a stamped and addressed birthday card for her. I think I should put it in the mail, because it hasn't magically brought itself to her!

Today, I am thankful that our downstairs neighbours didn't burn the house down last night. My hair and clothing all reek like burnt food and scorched kitchenware, but our apartment still stands.

Celebrate

Recently, this little guy...
...has turned into this little guy. Apparently, turning 1 has done nothing to help keep his tongue in his mouth..... What a cutie, eh?

How can they keep from singing, singing, singing, singing...

I'm sitting on the couch right now, listening to the birds chirping and singing. It reminds me of summers when I was in elementary school, in bed while it was still light out. The yellow curtains never did much to hide the early evening sun, and the birds in the trees right beside my window just sang and sang, chirped and chirped. That's what I think about when I hear birds chirping at night in the spring and summer. My cozy yellow bedroom.

Mmmm yummy

Since Brian and I don't really buy snacks when we shop, I often find myself looking for snacky-type things to whip up in the kitchen. Last week, it was peanut butter cheesecake, which was delicious. I highly recommend the recipe. This week, I found a trail mix-type recipe. One problem - I didn't have the ingredients required... So, I substituted the Chex cereal with Cheerios, and the teddy grahams with Multi-Grain Cheerios, and the ramen noodles with All Bran and Rice Krispies. In the end, I used about 7 cups of various cereals that we have in the house. I also added in some peanuts. In the sauce, I added in corn syrup, brown sugar, peanut butter and cinnamon. The mid-way result is fabulous - I'm just waiting for it to finish baking, now! If we had them in the cupboard, I would have also added sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. Check out the original recipe here!
